Business Networking at Its Best: Insights from PowerHouse Smart's Event

Last month, I had the honor of speaking at the recent PowerHouse Smart - MN Education Networking event. PowerHouse Smart is known nationwide for fostering collaboration in the luxury real estate, design, and construction industries. This event marked a special celebration of their expanding network in Minnesota to like-minded people, and I was excited to be a part of it!

The Value of PowerHouse Smart MN Education

The PowerHouse Smart Education events are a valuable resource for making new business connections in the area, collaborating with industry insiders, and sharing knowledge. We kept the event lighthearted and fun but still created opportunities to engage in deeper discussion and form strong relationships. Everyone was asked to bring five business cards to exchange, enhancing professional networking experience and helping everyone expand their networks with professional connections!

I was invited to speak at this in-person event by mutual friends who were excited about jump-starting the PowerHouse Smart network in our region. Having followed the Curious Builder brand, they believed we could attract newcomers and add weight to the event. We loved Collaborating with the Crown Warehouse and Delivery team and adding value to the event!

Focusing on Intention and the Client Experience

During my session, I explored the themes of intention and client experience—topics that I have always felt are crucial for any business professional, regardless of their career stage. I brought up three fundamental questions that should ground everything we do throughout our business growth: Who are we serving? What are we crafting? Why are we doing it?

Our businesses are constantly evolving, and it can be too easy to lose sight of where we are on that journey. For instance, if we relentlessly answer client's demands without considering our core values, we might end up steering our companies in an unintended direction and away from our initial business goals. As business owners, we want to continue growing (of course) but also stay true to our original vision.

A key part of my presentation involved mapping out the client experience. When asked who best succeeds at this, most attendees singled out the hospitality industry. We had an interactive discussion between about 40 participants exploring why that might be and how we can apply those principles to our businesses. Getting people thinking, talking, and learning from one another is something I love to work towards at every event. Not only do we get great ideas we might never consider ourselves, but we also get a chance to be active in the conversation, increasing our own ability to learn and grow.

The Unboxing Challenge

One of the business networking event’s highlights was an unboxing challenge between Jonathan Cremer and me against the seasoned professionals from Crown, the event’s host site. Crown specializes in white glove service, including inspecting, storing, and delivering furniture for designers. The challenge was to unbox, tag, track, and store items—a task at which the Crown team excels. Needless to say, our efforts as rookies didn’t come close to matching the efficiency of the Crown pros. It was a fun and humbling experience that highlighted the expertise and dedication of Crown’s team.
